124. It's the different kind of Hunger Games where we drop subjects instead of dropping dead
Sunday, May 20, 2012
So here's the thing, Asasi UIA takes language quite seriously, and the period of your studies at CFS would mainly be determined by your language skills, and it's different for each course, ICT has a fairly low rank compared to other courses. Regardless whatever you got for Arab, if you get exempted for English, you're eligible for a one year programme. English level 6, one and a half. English level 5, one and a half but with an extra short sem, and finally English level 4, you get 2 years.

Bear in mind, ICT holds the smallest batch of students in the whole CFS, like, really, we're kind of like unicorns. Everyone knows each other and it's somewhat a whole big family, but of course, with classifications, comes Assobiyah.

Well it's not exactly Assobiyah, more of a group of people you're most comfortable around with. If you abide your study plan, without dropping or adding any subject, eventually you'll have classes with your classmates throughout the whole year, and being surrounded by familiar faces all year long, the bond created is inevitable. The One years started with a whole bunch of people, I was quite surprised, there were 8 girls and I can't even remember how many boys were in the class, but it quadrupled (or possibly quintupled) the girls. But it's somewhat like the hunger games, some people backed down (dropped a subject, failed a subject) and one by one they just kept disappearing.

and then there were 9.

In terms of technicalities. 9 is the amount of people who are still in the one year programme, and even that's plausible because Megat might be going to UM, but that's a different story. Some people, who extend to one and half, went missing, just like that, I don't think I've ever seen the glimpse of our former classmates, or even our Sem 1 class rep. What happened to him? and the others? They just disappeared.. like poof..gone in thin air. In despite of those who are MIA, those who are still around have two choices, either be in the one and half group, or be in the one year group. You don't exactly see it at first, but by the end of the year, you just know which group you end up feeling more close to.

Zaim on the other hand, is a special case. If the whole ICT batch was a Venn diagram, and the one year group is circle A, the one and a half year group is circle B, Zaim would be the area C that intersects circle A and B. I can't even classify him in either groups because he's...kind of a hybrid. Which is a good thing, it shows less emphasis on the subtle assobiyah thing going on.

So meet the family

(okay, baru perasan, muka Zul ada dalam semua gambar. Classmate yang sangat aktif yaa)

The boys: Haziq, Zul, Megat, Asyraf, Meor, Nazran, Zaki, Zaim and Zaid
The girls: Ain Aisyah, Fatin, Nadia, Naelah, Sha

Not to brag or anything, but I genuinely feel that the one year group is very impressive. Everyone is so smart, talented and unique in their own way, I mean we've got the genius Amirul Asyraf, the intellectuals Zaim Zaid, the silent smarts Nazran, Megat, Meor, and the basketball bad ass trio Zul Zaki Haziq. And the cherry on top of this overwhelming sundae is that they're unexpectedly very nice and funny people. I mean, I've had my fair share of classmate douches and knowing that none of them are like that is something I'm very grateful of.

And the girls' friendship a.k.a Atoto squad, is a remarkable ship I've ever sailed on. I don't think I've ever been so attached to a group of people for this period length of time, and it's quite an experience. From the day we first met Monday 9AM Block E Database class, til this very moment, we've endured a lot. We eat meals together after classes, we study together, we discuss projects together, we annoy each other, we watch movies together, we randomly visit each others' room, we've squatted even, we fought, we made up, we had a lot of adventures(dancing under the moonlight, lying on Block C's podium gazing at the stars, ran across the field at night etcetera etcetera) and sometimes, I think to myself how lucky and grateful I am to reach this point in life where I meet all these wonderful people.

We're different. We're almost like The Breakfast Club, 6 individuals with different personalities, unique style, opposing opinions and with such diverse taste are combined altogether to create this super awesome group
